10.6. Pieter “Peter” Zee, son of Pieter Zee, was born on September 1, 1881 in Twisk, Noord-Holland, NL. Sometime between 1900 and 1905 he temporarily moved to from Holland to Canada where he lived in Winnepeg, Manitobo. According to his statements on his passport request in April 1920, he emigrated from The Netherlands to the United States of America on March 25, 1906, which means that he arrived on Ellis Island in early April of 1906, but the manifest of the ship that he sailed on has not been found yet.
In 1909 he traveled back to The Netherlands to accompany his bride-to-be on her passage to the United States of America. The immigration manifest of that transatlantic passage lists Pieter (Peter) Zee as a citizen of the USA.
Pieter married Gezina Mary DeGraaff, daughter of Hendrik Jacob de Graaff and Antje Prins, on March 25, 1909 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Gezina was born on June 18, 1887 in Alkmaar, Noord-Holland, NL. The perfect sequence of card numbers of the 1915 state census shows that cousins Paul and Peter shared the same house with their families in Sheldon, O’Brien, Iowa at that time. In 1920 the federal census shows that both families went their own way with Paul and Johanna moving to Lester, Sioux County, some 45 miles north-west of Sheldon, O’Brien, Iowa. Peter and Gezina moved to Alton, Sioux County, some 18 miles south-west of Sheldon, O’Brien, Iowa.

On April 3, 1920 Pter applied for a passport:

This application form contains a few important details which clarify Peter’s wherabouts between 1906 and 1920.

As the family of Peter and Gezina grew larger, their residence changed across several states from west to east as the census documents of 1910, 1920 an 1930 show:
